ACO confirm PRO-AM GT3 category set to debut in 2024

The new class will feature GT3 cars with a “Le Mans performance package”

The ACO has confirmed that the 2024 GT3-based category that is set to replace GTE, will be PRO-AM only.

Announced in the annual ACO Press Conference at Le Mans, the organising body of the FIA World Endurance Championship, further details of the still-unnamed category were confirmed.

After much speculation, the new class will be PRO-AM only, which Endurance Director Richard Mille explained was targeted at brands who were looking to step up to Hypercar.

”“It’s interesting to see brands moving to Hypercar from GT…”

“The aim of this new category is that it is possible for factories to take part in Hypercar but also be able to sell cars to private owners for ‘GT3LM’”

The ACO also confirmed that the class will be “inspired by GT3 cars, but will feature a Le Mans performance package.”

Additionally the 2022 season is confirmed as the last for the GTE-PRO class, with the ACO sticking to a plan to wind down the category.
