Sebastien Ogier to race in WEC LMP2 with Richard Mille
The 8x WRC champion will compete in his first full sportscar season
From Monte Carlo to the Mulsanne, 8-times WRC champion Ogier has been announced as part of the three-driver lineup in the #1 Richard Mille Oreca 07.
The 38 year-old makes the switch after a two known turns in the Toyota GR010 Hypercar, at the Bahrain Rookie Test and rumoured to have taken a turn at the wheel at the Japanese marque’s Áragon test weekend in January.
Joining the Frenchman is reigning LMP2 class champion Charles Milesi, who leaves Team WRT for his second season in WEC.
Lilou Wadoux completes the trio, the young French racer is a rising start in sportscars as the only woman to have won the Alpine Elf Europa Cup.
“Up until now, I have focused on my rally career, but it has been on my mind for a long time that endurance racing could be a good challenge,” said Ogier.
“LMP2 is a fantastic category and the best way for me to reach the highest level of endurance racing and improve in this discipline.
“I am a novice for sure, but I want to enjoy myself while assessing what's possible and seeing how close I can get to the best.
“This adventure is enticing, but I am aware that I have a lot to learn and a lot of experience to gain. I have always had a good capacity to adapt in rallying, so I hope that this will also be true on race tracks!”
Richard Mille Racing debuted in the WEC at the 2020 24h Le Mans, finishing ninth in the LMP2 class with the same all-female lineup that raced last season.
Ogier will debut at Sebring at the first 1000Mile race since 2019… talk about being thrown in the deep end!
